STAS Not Connecting to ChatGPT or Claude: What to Check
This page is a diagnostic list: find the symptom that matches what you see and check the causes in order. STAS connects once, and after that every chat in ChatGPT or Claude sees your fresh workouts. The step-by-step setup itself lives in the watch-to-ChatGPT and watch-to-Claude guides.
Connect Intervals.icu dataShort answer
Check five possible causes: ChatGPT is missing Developer mode, the connector is not selected in the chat, the setup was done on a phone, the Intervals.icu sign-in did not finish, or the workout has not reached Intervals.icu yet. Work through the symptoms below.
- ✓In ChatGPT, type @ in the chat and select STAS. In Claude, check Customize → Connectors.
- ✓Do the setup on a computer, in a browser.
- ✓Sign in through Intervals.icu with the same account you use on stas.run.
- ✓If you just connected everything, ask again in about a minute while the first import runs.
- ✓If a workout is missing, check that it is visible in Intervals.icu first.
First useful action
Your watch data becomes useful only after it reaches the coaching conversation
Garmin, Apple Watch, and other devices send the training record to Intervals.icu. STAS turns it into context for ChatGPT or Claude.
Connect the source of truth
Intervals.icu keeps workouts, calendar, load, zones, and recent history in one place.
Let AI see real context
STAS prepares that data so ChatGPT or Claude can answer from your actual training, not a pasted summary.
Ask for the next decision
Start with a clear analysis or action: recovery check, missed workout, next week, or one session to adjust.
STAS reads only the training data you approve through Intervals.icu. Start with one practical question: current condition, a workout review, or what to change next.
Connect Intervals.icu dataWhere the chain can break
A workout passes through three links before the AI can talk about it. When something looks wrong, find the link that breaks.
Watch → Intervals.icu
The workout must reach Intervals.icu from your watch directly. If it arrives through Strava, third-party AI connections, including STAS, see only its date.
Intervals.icu → STAS
STAS reads the account you signed in with. If the sign-in through Intervals.icu did not finish, STAS has nothing to show the AI.
STAS → ChatGPT or Claude
The connector must be added in the AI app and selected in the chat. In ChatGPT, type @ and pick STAS. In Claude, STAS must be present in Customize → Connectors.
No Developer mode or Plugins in ChatGPT
You cannot find Developer mode or the Plugins / Add custom MCP server option in ChatGPT.
- ✓Open chatgpt.com on a computer, in a browser, and check Settings → Security and login → Developer mode. The ChatGPT setup steps are written for the web version on a computer.
- ✓If the option is still missing, use the older STAS GPT option instead. It opens as a separate chat and is no longer updated.
- ✓The full setup, including what to do when the option is missing, is in the watch-to-ChatGPT guide.
The connector is not visible in the chat
You added STAS, but the AI does not use it in the conversation.
- ✓In ChatGPT, type @ in the message field and select STAS from the list. If ChatGPT offers to install the plugin, install it.
- ✓In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and check that STAS is in the list. If it is missing, add it again as described in the watch-to-Claude guide.
- ✓After adding the connector, start a new chat and enable STAS there.
You are doing this on a phone
The screens look different, or some options are hard to find in the app.
- ✓Do the setup on a computer, in a browser: the ChatGPT steps are written for chatgpt.com on a computer.
- ✓If you do not see Customize → Connectors in the Claude app, open claude.ai in a browser on a computer.
The Intervals.icu sign-in did not finish
The connector was added, but the AI says it cannot reach your data.
- ✓Remove the STAS connector in ChatGPT or Claude and add it again, finishing the sign-in through Intervals.icu.
- ✓Sign in with the same Intervals.icu account you use on stas.run.
- ✓If you just connected everything, ask your question again in about a minute: the first import is still running.
The AI does not see a workout
The connection works, but a specific workout is missing or looks empty.
- ✓Check Intervals.icu first: open Activities and see whether the workout is there. If it is missing, sync the watch app and check Settings → Connections in Intervals.icu. The Garmin sync and Amazfit sync guides cover this step by step.
- ✓If the workout is in Intervals.icu but arrived there through Strava, third-party AI connections, including STAS, see only its date. Connect the watch to Intervals.icu directly; the Strava guide explains why.
- ✓After fixing the source, ask the AI to update your data, then ask about the workout again.
Check in this order
Five checks, top to bottom. You can stop when the AI names your last workout.
- 1Open the AI app on a computer, in a browser.
- 2Check that STAS is selected in the chat: in ChatGPT type @ and pick STAS; in Claude check Customize → Connectors.
- 3Re-add the connector and finish the sign-in through Intervals.icu with your stas.run account.
- 4Wait about a minute after the first connection, then ask again.
- 5Check the workout itself in Intervals.icu → Activities.
Fix the connection once, use it in every chat
Once STAS connects, every chat in ChatGPT or Claude sees your fresh workouts. That is the benefit of connecting once.
Connect STASHow to tell that everything works
One question gives you a clear yes or no.
- 1Ask the AI to update your data, then name your last workout.
- 2A working setup returns the date, duration and average heart rate of that workout.
- 3Compare the answer with Activities in Intervals.icu. If they match, the whole chain works.
- 4After syncing your watch, ask the AI to update your data and name the new workout.
What the AI can and cannot see
What STAS passes to the AI
- ✓Workouts that reached Intervals.icu from your watch, with pace, heart rate, laps and other saved details.
- ✓Your calendar, goals, profile and rules saved in STAS.
- ✓Wellness data when your watch sends it to Intervals.icu.
What it does not pass
- ✓Workouts you did not record or did not sync.
- ✓Details of workouts that arrived in Intervals.icu through Strava. Third-party AI connections see only their date.
- ✓Data that never reached Intervals.icu.
STAS reads only data you approve through Intervals.icu. How STAS handles it is described in the privacy policy.
How STAS differs from a direct connector
An official connector gives an AI access to one service. STAS adds the following on top of your Intervals.icu data.
One STAS account for every watch brand
Add the same STAS connector to ChatGPT and to Claude, and both work with the same saved context.
Context, not raw data
The AI gets a ready summary of load, workouts, wellness, profile, goals and rules, so answers rest on your own history.
The plan returns to the calendar
After you confirm, the plan is written to your calendar, and from there to the watch where the brand supports it.
A convenient interface instead of manual setup
No terminal or API keys. Profile and settings on the site, reports in Telegram, start without a card.
Frequently asked questions
ChatGPT has no Developer mode. What now?
Open chatgpt.com on a computer, in a browser, and check Settings → Security and login → Developer mode. If the option is not there, use the older STAS GPT option: it opens as a separate chat and is no longer updated. The setup steps are in the watch-to-ChatGPT guide.
Claude does not show STAS in the chat.
Open Customize → Connectors in Claude and check that STAS is in the list and enabled. If it is missing, add it again with the STAS connector address and finish the sign-in through Intervals.icu.
Why does the AI see only the date of a workout?
That workout reached Intervals.icu through Strava, and third-party AI connections, including STAS, see only its date. Connect the watch to Intervals.icu directly.
Can I use STAS and the Intervals.icu connector at the same time?
Yes, they are separate connections. The fitness MCP servers guide explains how the options differ.
Still not working?
Write to STAS support in Telegram: https://t.me/stas_support_bot. Describe the symptom, where it happens, and which watch brand you use.
