Strava and AI

Strava ChatGPT and Claude Integration: What Works

Strava ChatGPT integration: Strava has no official connection to ChatGPT. It does have an official, read-only connection to Claude (and to Gemini in the US) for subscribers. To use ChatGPT or Claude with your real workouts, send them from your watch to Intervals.icu and connect STAS.

Connect Intervals.icu data

STAS starts free, no credit card. A custom connector in ChatGPT or Claude depends on your ChatGPT or Claude plan.

Short answer

If you want ChatGPT, the working route is your watch → Intervals.icu → STAS → ChatGPT. If you only want to ask Claude about your Strava history, Strava's own connector may be enough.

  • ✓Strava officially connects to Claude and, in the US only, to Gemini. It is for Strava subscribers and is read-only.
  • ✓Strava has no official connection to ChatGPT.
  • ✓Workouts that reach Intervals.icu through Strava are visible to third-party AI connections only by date, so connect your watch to Intervals.icu directly.
  • ✓STAS works with both ChatGPT and Claude on top of your Intervals.icu data.

First useful action

Your watch data becomes useful only after it reaches the coaching conversation

Garmin, Apple Watch, and other devices send the training record to Intervals.icu. STAS turns it into context for ChatGPT or Claude.

1

Connect the source of truth

Intervals.icu keeps workouts, calendar, load, zones, and recent history in one place.

2

Let AI see real context

STAS prepares that data so ChatGPT or Claude can answer from your actual training, not a pasted summary.

3

Ask for the next decision

Start with a clear analysis or action: recovery check, missed workout, next week, or one session to adjust.

STAS reads only the training data you approve through Intervals.icu. Start with one practical question: current condition, a workout review, or what to change next.

Routes compared

Each route has a real use. Pick by what you need the AI to do.

Strava's official connection

Pros: official, no extra accounts. Cons: Claude and Gemini only (Gemini in the US only), Strava subscribers only, read-only, no plan writing, no ChatGPT.

Intervals.icu's own connector

Pros: official, includes ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, can add, move and delete calendar workouts after you confirm. Cons: needs the Supporter plan ($4 a month on 6 November 2026), and Strava-sourced activities show only by date.

Copying workouts into a chat by hand

Pros: nothing to set up. Cons: the AI sees only what you paste, history is lost between chats, and every answer needs fresh copying.

STAS

Pros: one STAS account and shared saved context across ChatGPT and Claude, a ready summary of your history, plan written to the calendar after your confirmation. Cons: needs an Intervals.icu account and a watch that sends workouts to Intervals.icu directly.

Why Strava-sourced workouts stay thin

If Intervals.icu receives your workouts from Strava, third-party AI connections can see only the date of each activity, not pace, heart rate or laps. STAS reads data through Intervals.icu, so the same limit applies. The fix is to connect the watch brand to Intervals.icu directly and keep Strava for sharing.

Steps: from Strava to a working AI coach

You can keep using Strava. The change is only in how workouts reach Intervals.icu.

  1. 1Create an Intervals.icu account if you do not have one.
  2. 2In Intervals.icu, open Settings → Connections and connect your watch brand directly (for example Garmin) instead of Strava as the source.
  3. 3Open Activities in Intervals.icu and check that a recent workout shows pace, heart rate or power, and laps.
  4. 4Sign in to STAS with the same Intervals.icu account.
  5. 5Connect ChatGPT or Claude as shown below, then ask the AI to update your data.

Connect STAS to ChatGPT or Claude

ChatGPT and Claude use the same STAS data. Sign in with the Intervals.icu account that receives your workouts.

ChatGPT

  1. 1Open chatgpt.com on a computer, in a browser. Turn on Developer mode: Settings → Security and login → Developer mode.
  2. 2Go to Plugins, select + and choose Add custom MCP server.
  3. 3In Name, enter STAS. Keep Server URL and paste https://stas.run/api/mcp. In Authentication, choose OAuth.
  4. 4Tick I understand and want to continue and select Create. When ChatGPT asks you to sign in, use Intervals.icu.
  5. 5In a chat, type @, select STAS and ask your question.

No Developer mode or Add custom MCP server in your ChatGPT? Use the older option, STAS GPT. It opens as a separate chat, runs on an older ChatGPT model and is no longer updated.

Claude

  1. 1In Claude, open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. 2Paste the STAS connector URL: https://stas.run/api/mcp.
  3. 3Finish the sign-in through Intervals.icu with the same account.
  4. 4Enable STAS in the chat and ask Claude to update your data first.

Connect your watch data to ChatGPT or Claude

Sign in with Intervals.icu and let the AI see real workouts, not only dates.

Connect STAS

STAS starts free, no credit card. A custom connector in ChatGPT or Claude depends on your ChatGPT or Claude plan.

How to check that your first workout is visible

Check a real workout, not only the connection screen.

  1. 1In ChatGPT or Claude, write: Update my data, then list my last three workouts with date, distance, duration and average heart rate.
  2. 2Compare the answer with Activities in Intervals.icu.
  3. 3If the AI shows a workout only by date, it came through Strava. Reconnect that watch to Intervals.icu directly.
  4. 4Record a new workout and check that it appears without manual steps.

What the AI can and cannot see

The AI can see

  • ✓Workouts that reached Intervals.icu from your watch, with the details Intervals.icu has.
  • ✓Your calendar, goals, profile and rules saved in STAS.
  • ✓Wellness data when your watch sends it to Intervals.icu.

The AI cannot see

  • ✓Details of activities that arrived in Intervals.icu through Strava, only their date.
  • ✓Data that is only inside Strava. STAS gets data through Intervals.icu, not from Strava directly.
  • ✓Anything you did not record or sync.

STAS reads only data you approve through Intervals.icu. How STAS handles it is described in the privacy policy.

How STAS differs from a direct connector

An official connector gives an AI access to one service. STAS adds the following on top of your Intervals.icu data.

One STAS account for every watch brand

Add the same STAS connector to ChatGPT and to Claude, and both work with the same saved context.

Context, not raw data

The AI gets a ready summary of load, workouts, wellness, profile, goals and rules, so answers rest on your own history.

The plan returns to the calendar

After you confirm, the plan is written to your calendar, and from there to the watch where the brand supports it.

A convenient interface instead of manual setup

No terminal or API keys. Profile and settings on the site, reports in Telegram, start without a card.

Frequently asked questions

Does Strava work with ChatGPT?

Strava has no official connection to ChatGPT. To use ChatGPT with your workouts, send them from your watch to Intervals.icu and connect STAS.

Does Strava work with Claude?

Do I need a Strava subscription for STAS?

No. STAS gets data from Intervals.icu, not from Strava. A Strava subscription is needed only for Strava's own AI connection.

Why does my AI show only dates for some workouts?

Those workouts reached Intervals.icu through Strava, and third-party AI connections see only their date. Connect your watch to Intervals.icu directly.

Can I keep using Strava?

Yes. Keep Strava for sharing and social features. Only the route of workouts into Intervals.icu changes.

How much does it cost?

STAS starts free, no credit card. A custom connector in ChatGPT or Claude depends on your ChatGPT or Claude plan. Intervals.icu is free for personal use.
