How to Connect Suunto to ChatGPT for AI Running Coaching
Your Suunto records every trail ascent, heart rate spike, and GPS track — but ChatGPT and Claude can't see any of it. Here's how to bridge the gap so both coach from your actual Suunto data.
Connect for freeWhy connect your Suunto to ChatGPT?
Suunto watches are built for outdoor and trail athletes. They collect precise altitude, GPS, and heart rate data in the toughest conditions. When you connect through STAS, your AI coach sees everything your watch recorded — even in deep canyons and dense forests.
- ✓FusedTrack GPS — accurate route and distance tracking even when satellite signal is weak, so ChatGPT gets real data from every trail
- ✓Optical HR accuracy — consistent heart rate monitoring during intense trail efforts, climbs, and descents
- ✓Outdoor and trail focus — altitude, ascent/descent, and gradient data that road-only watches miss entirely
- ✓SuuntoPlus apps — additional training metrics like interval guidance, ghost runner, and climb analysis flow into your AI coaching
How to set it up (5 minutes)
Suunto connects directly to Intervals.icu. Once set up, every workout flows into STAS and then into ChatGPT automatically — no manual input.

What Suunto data does ChatGPT get?
Through the Suunto → Intervals.icu → STAS chain, ChatGPT receives structured, queryable training data — not screenshots or manual summaries.
Average and lap pace in sec/km, total distance, kilometer splits. FusedTrack ensures accuracy even on trails with poor GPS signal.
Average HR, max HR, time in each heart rate zone. Suunto's optical sensor captures data throughout climbs and technical terrain.
Barometric altitude, total ascent and descent in meters. Critical data for trail and mountain runners that road watches often miss.
Suunto's aerobic and anaerobic training effect scores, plus PTE (Peak Training Effect) for each workout.
Estimated recovery hours after each session. Helps the AI coach plan your next workout with proper rest.
CTL (fitness), ATL (fatigue), TSB (form) — computed from every session for precise periodization across road and trail.
