How to Connect Polar to ChatGPT for AI Running Coaching
Your Polar watch captures precision heart rate, running power, and Training Load Pro data. But ChatGPT and Claude can't access any of it. Here's how to connect Polar directly to Intervals.icu and pass that real data into both.
Connect for freeWhy connect your Polar to ChatGPT?
Polar watches are known for their precision optical heart rate sensor and science-backed training metrics. But all that data stays locked in Polar Flow — invisible to ChatGPT. When you connect through STAS, your AI coach sees everything your watch recorded.
- ✓Precision heart rate from Polar's optical sensor — one of the most accurate wrist-based HR monitors on the market
- ✓Running power without a footpod — Polar calculates power from wrist, giving you effort data beyond pace and heart rate
- ✓Training Load Pro with cardio, muscular, and perceived load — a complete picture of how training stress accumulates
- ✓Recovery insights like Nightly Recharge and sleep tracking — context that determines what tomorrow's workout should be
How to set it up (5 minutes)
Polar connects directly to Intervals.icu. Once set up, every workout flows into STAS and then into ChatGPT automatically — no manual entry.

Open STAS GPT in ChatGPT
Click the STAS GPT link in your profile. Authorize on first visit. In every new chat, click the button to load your data — and your AI coach is ready. It sees your full Polar history: every run, every interval, every heart rate reading.
What Polar data does ChatGPT get?
Through the Polar → Intervals.icu → STAS chain, ChatGPT receives structured, queryable training data — not screenshots or manual summaries.
Average HR, max HR, time in each heart rate zone, HR drift during the session. Polar's precision optical sensor delivers highly accurate data.
Polar's proprietary metric that tracks your running economy and VO2max estimate over time, alongside VDOT from race results.
Cardio load, muscular load, and perceived load — three dimensions of training stress that together paint a complete picture of your fitness.
Wrist-based running power in watts, calculated without a footpod. Measures actual effort independent of terrain and conditions.
Steps per minute, barometric altitude, elevation gain. Useful for trail and hilly course analysis.
CTL (fitness), ATL (fatigue), TSB (form) — computed from every session for precise periodization and readiness tracking.
Polar models that work
All Polar watches that sync with Polar Flow work with this setup. Here are the most popular models among runners:
Polar's flagship. Precision HR, running power, Training Load Pro, GNSS, maps, and offline music. Full training ecosystem.
Premium outdoor multisport. Barometric altitude, navigation, and all running metrics. Built for trail and ultra runners.
Lightweight GPS running watch with barometer. Running power, Training Load Pro, and route navigation at a great value.
Versatile multisport watch. Precision HR, running power, sleep tracking. Excellent mid-range option for serious runners.
Fitness-focused with health tracking. Sleep analysis, Nightly Recharge, and all the essential running metrics.
Any Polar with Polar Flow works. If your Polar watch uploads to Polar Flow, it will work with this chain. Older models like Vantage V2, Grit X, Pacer, or Ignite 2 are fully supported too.
